When Aidan's mom found out that one of his closest friends, Paige, was doing a destination experience at Ocean Isle beach, she didn't hesitate to ask if there was any way to squeeze a senior session in for him too. Paige and her family were all for it, especially since that meant they could get a photo of them together. So I met up with Aidan before my shoot with Paige. He is a super nice guy and, while I'm sure this wasn't his top choice of ways to spend a Saturday, he was still game for whatever I suggested. Also helps he's a good looking dude, so my job here was pretty easy. haha
Aidan is a talented lacrosse player for Hough High School, so his mom really wanted a few that documented that. The rest of his looks were more beach appropriate. Anytime my guys need guidance, I usually tell them to consider the setting. For the beach, I tell them to keep it light and stick to a more natural look.
Obviously I have the same approach for all of my seniors, but especially with my guys, I like to ease them into the whole "modeling" thing. It's weird to be sitting in front of a camera all self-conscious, so it takes some time getting comfortable. Thankfully with Aidan, he did an awesome job to the point where I had several people say I made him look like an Abercrombie model. haha
When I was almost done with Paige's shoot, we had Aidan meet us back out there to grab a couple shots of him at sunset.
Tips for senior guy sessions:
- Mom, we all know you mean well, but I can often get them to open up WAY faster if you give your guy a little space. If you put yourself in their shoes, it's very hard to "model" with your mom staring at you. Lol Aidan's mom was cool and gave us enough space to get him to relax, and it shows in the images!
- Look nice... but stay comfortable. I swear if you just showed up in jeans and a hoodie, I could still turn it into a magazine worthy shoot. So keep it true to you.
- This is very likely going to be the last professional shoot where it's all about you. So have some fun with it! Go to the beach, hike a mountain, bring your dog/car/shoes/etc.
- And lastly... I promise you're not doing it wrong. Lol Every single senior feels self-conscious and a little awkward at the beginning of their session (even my girls). I'll do my best to help you relax, and you do your best to just hang out with me the way you would a friend. If we both do that, the rest will take care of itself. ;)
