Ian's senior shoot will definitely go down as one of the most fun senior photo sessions I've done. This year was the year of the younger siblings. haha Ian happens to be the younger brother of Lily who was one of my Class of 2020 seniors. And much like his older sister, Ian is talented in all kinds of different things including modeling, acting, baseball, and more recently fishing. Ian has been playing ball for basically his whole life and it's been such a huge part of his high school career that we had to grab some of him on the field. So we started at his home field at JM Robinson High School.
Oh, and if he looks a little familiar to some of you? He also happens to be TikTok famous. ;)
While the baseball stuff was fun, Ian's current obsession is being on the lake with his fishing boat. He found this new obsession during 2020 when everything shut down and he needed an outlet. He has since been in several bass fishing tournaments and actually placed. The entire time we were on the baseball field, he talked about nothing else but being on his boat and how he couldn't wait to go fishing for his photoshoot. haha I did manage to grab a few traditional style photos for his mom, but the rest were spent on his boat.
As a side note, let me just tell you that while his fishing boat was pretty dang awesome, it wasn't exactly built for photoshoots. hahaha The amount of room to get a variety of shots was a little limited, but we made it work. Libby was even there to help with lighting. And this is why you hire a professional senior photographer that knows what they're doing and has the equipment to handle these types of scenarios. Bc look how cool.
Having a senior that's truly just fun to hang out with really does make all the difference on a shoot. Don't be afraid to show me your true self on your senior session! I know sometimes it's easy to worry what I might think but I promise that unless you've been to jail, there's nothing I haven't heard before. Lol I'd say a good 90% of my seniors figure out real fast that we're there just to have a good time, and it's okay to relax and be themselves. Ian kept us laughing and having fun the entire shoot, drove us around the lake, showed off his fishing gear... we seriously had the best time!
One of the things I try to make sure I tell clients (as silly as it sounds), I can't control the sunset. I can try to predict, but I have no idea what I'm going to end up getting the second that sun starts going down. But man did we get lucky for Ian's session. Being out on the water was cool enough, but then we got that epic sunset. Ian tapped back into that inner model and we got some seriously cool shots in those last 5-10 minutes. One of my top favorites though is probably him laying down chillin on his boat with that awesome sky in the background. It felt both model-y yet realistic.
I had such a blast with this kid. He was so much fun and kept us entertained the whole time for sure. hahaha
Make sure to check him out on TikTok!
