I knew Sofiana was going to be a dream to work with as soon as she walked in for her consultation. She's a very skilled ballerina, and for those not aware, I love photographing dancers because they've been trained to have incredible body awareness. They've watched themselves move in front of a mirror for years, so they know exactly what to do when I ask them to make the slightest adjustment. She is also insanely sweet and fully trusted me as her photographer, meaning I had a lot of creative freedom with her. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your senior photos is to let your photographer do what they do best... create! Sofiana chose to start her senior portrait experience in uptown Charlotte. Her little black dress and heels were absolutely perfect for this setting!
You guys, she looked like a literal supermodel walking in uptown! Get ready for an image heavy post, because daaaanng this girl brought it.
After a little while in uptown Charlotte, we headed towards Lake Norman for downtown Davidson. This gave Sofiana a different type of town feel which adds variety. Her outfit was adorable here... a splash of color, jeans to give her more posing options, and a more casual pair of heels. Even though I grew up in Lake Norman, I never ever get tired of exploring the area, and downtown Davidson is definitely one of my top favorite spots.
But wait, there's more...! hahaha Sofiana can really pull off a soft, ethereal look like nobody's business. She really wanted to incorporate a natural look in her senior portrait experience, so we headed to one of my favorite open field areas in Lake Norman. I've been shooting here since before I went pro, and it's still not old to me. Sofiana chose this beautiful Free People dress from my Style Closet. It really helped give her photos that soft, flowy, natural look she was after.Â
Clearly we'd been busy running around Charlotte and Lake Norman, and I had done my best to time it just right so that when we were in the fields, the sun would reach that gorgeous, soft early evening stage. Looking back at all these photos, I'm sure you'd think we'd be exhausted by now, but I tend to run on such a creative high the entire time that I don't realize how tired I am until I finally sit down when it's over. hahaha
After the fields, Sofiana's biggest request was water portraits... bc this Class of 2021 LOVES the water! haha! We hit the lake at the perfect time!! And you guys, this is when it's important to hire a photographer that's skilled in off camera lighting. (**PHOTOGRAPHERS** Know your lighting!! This would have been a nightmare portion of the shoot had I not known how to adequately light her and expose for the sunset. Nobody wants to spend days photoshopping skies in! Lol)
Holy. Gorgeousness.Â
You should have heard the gasps coming from them at their ordering appointment. Sofiana looked like a freaking goddess out there.Â
Sofiana was a literal DREAM senior to photograph, and I'm so stinking honored she chose me for her senior portrait experience. It definitely was one of my top favorites of the year.
