Sophie happens to be a special one for me. Because once upon a time, I announced that I was going to start building my photography portfolio to a few friends. My oldest had been diagnosed with Level 3 autism (the more "severe" area of the spectrum), and we were young, broke parents who needed to find a way to pay for all the therapies during a recession. Sophie's mom Melanie was one of the very first to put her confidence in me and has stuck with me ever since. Fast forward several years and here we are photographing Sophie's SENIOR YEAR!
Sophie had one request... flowers! And who am I, of all people, to deny her flowers?? Just for variety's sake, we began in the tiny town of Lincolnton where you already saw the most adorable outfit ever. Pink happens to be her favorite color, so of course we had to spend the majority of our time in this one! Afterwards, we headed to a local farm full of beautiful zinnias, cosmos, and sunflowers.
I adored the second outfit she chose while she and her mom and sister went shopping in Charleston. It complimented her skin tone and absolutely fit well with the entire vibe. Also can we talk about her shoe choice thus far? Ah-mazing.
After feeling all pretty in the dresses, Soph changed into something more casual. The farm we used has a super cute historical home that was a part of their family's. It was the perfect spot to use for these.
Her last outfit was a simple, beautiful white dress that went perfectly with the sunflowers. We also were able to grab a few of Sophie with her sister Darcy and of course mom.
Sophie set quite the precedence with her senior session. For the rest of the year, I was getting inquiries wanting "Sophie's session"! haha It's been such an honor photographing this sweet girl through the years... and a little weird I blinked and she's headed off to college! You're amazing Soph, and I can't wait to see what life has in store for you!
Tips to take away from Sophie's session:
- Outfits with movement! This is especially important if you plan on wearing a cute shorter dress. Make sure you can move comfortably and still get a variety of poses in it.
- Shoes! Make sure the shoes match not only your personal style but also the feel of the locations you've chosen.
- Locations! While I'm not there to photograph a flower field or pretty building, we do use the location choices to help set the overall mood of the shoot. In order to get a better variety, pick more than one location.
