You guys. Sophia. SOPH-FREAKIN-IA. I instantly loved this girl the second we met. She's fun, sweet, bubbly, and an absolute natural in front of the camera. My assistant was actually a little taken aback at how comfortable she was modeling, because (as with all my assistants) she was a past senior and knows how it can feel being in front of the camera. But if Sophia was nervous at all, we never would've known it.
Her senior session that day was actually the perfect example of what happens when clients trust me. Not that I'm always right... but it's not often I'm wrong when it comes to photography. lol Earlier that morning and most of the early afternoon, it was nasty out. Dark grey skies, steady rain... not photoshoot weather at all. However I watched my weather apps like a meteorologist. Tracking the storm as best I could and trying to time it out to see if it was going to be worth giving it a shot or not. Her dad was the one bringing her, and needless to say, while he trusted my gut feeling, I know he had his doubts this was a good idea. And I don't blame him. hahaha Spring is such a finicky season, and I never know what I'm going to get.
But just look...
Sophia had a few requests, and I was determined to meet them all. She definitely wanted it to look like spring with some flowers. The problem with spring is you never know what you're going to get when it comes to blooms. The big fields of wildflowers love sun, and if it's been cold and rainy, I just can't guarantee anything. But I also refuse to not let my seniors get what they want. So I took her to a local botanical garden where I knew a few trees had started blooming. She even listened to my advice and brought the most adorable denim jacket to add a little variety to her first look.
She also wanted to make sure we got a few decision day shots in there. And the fact that she's headed to Alabama... she deserves to get those for sure!
We headed to Camp North End to grab a few urban/city shots to give her a different look. I loved her outfit for this location as she was able to use any spot she wanted without clashing at all with any of the murals or artwork.
Sophia's final request was to get some water shots. Since it was March, it was definitely a little chilly but nothing we couldn't handle. haha She chose to wear last year's stunning prom dress for part of these and end in this beautiful blue. I'm always very careful when it comes to heavy material in water. While it's not the same as shooting in the ocean and having to worry about a current, heavier material can definitely make it more difficult to maneuver especially in that slimy lake sand. lol Sophia looked absolutely breathtaking in these though. I'm so happy she went for it!
About 99.9% of my clients end up with an album of some sort, and it's always one of my most favorite parts of the entire process... seeing all of these beautiful images in PRINT! Sophia's album looks absolutely gorgeous! And the best part is if hard drives crash, phones go down, digitals get lost... she'll always have a lasting, tangible heirloom to keep these memories safe.
