One of the reasons I never get bored with my job is that each one of my seniors brings their own fresh take on senior photography and what they envision for their session. Even the ones that want the same location as a past senior is still completely different. They have their own personality, style, and way of seeing the world that I hope to capture.
For Arielle, she had a very specific idea in mind... Vogue. While she appreciates your classic senior photos, she really wanted something that stood out. She's not a super smiley, giggly, all-American type girl. She's got depth and a beautiful mysteriousness about her that I found fascinating. Since Arielle is homeschooled and wouldn't be having a traditional prom, her parents decided to go all out for her senior pictures. They bought her a gorgeous red Sherri Hill dress that was insanely stunning against her porcelain skin and blonde hair.
At her consultation, she had me laughing when she tried explaining her decorating style. She said the more gold, the more gaudy, the better. She LOVES anything vintage and over-the-top. Because of that, she really wanted to somehow incorporate a hotel lobby with a big chandelier. I had my assistant call around to all the different Charlotte area hotels. We landed on one of my absolute favorites... the Morehead Inn. My dad and stepmom actually had their reception there, so walking in felt very familiar. It's just as beautiful as I remember. But even more importantly, the staff there is incredible. They were so accommodating and warm. I will forever be so grateful to them for opening up their venue to us. Not only did Arielle get her dream experience, but I created some of (what I feel is) some of my best work.
Her second main request was to get Vogue inspired city shots in uptown Charlotte. It was such a gorgeous evening. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better scenario to pull this off. We just walked around uptown (still not sure how Arielle dealt with those heels the whole time) and stopped when I felt inspired by something. My favorite images of all time just might be here. The twinkly cafe lights, that dress, and the whole vibe... I literally pretended I was photographing her in Paris. And then these happened.
(fun fact: several of her images ended up being featured by accounts like Pose Patch, Senior MUSE, and Senior Year Magazine)
