I think one of the funnest parts of my job is when the siblings of past seniors choose me for their senior pictures too! I'm sure most people assume that if I photograph one family member, they'll of course use me the next time... but that's not always the case with seniors! And I'm okay with that! Everyone should have the freedom to use whoever they want for their photos. So while one senior might prefer my more editorial approach with a true-to-life editing style, someone else might want a more classic portrait approach with muted tones. I want my people to be over the moon excited to have me as their photographer. Thankfully, I got lucky and Payton wanted me as her senior photographer like her sister Lexi.
And just like her sister, we started her Wildflower Senior Experience with a field. Payton is most definitely more of a fun, casual type girl, but she agreed to get in a dress for her mom. And mom was so happy! ;) I loved the tones that her dress brought to this whole look. She changed into an adorable sweater & skirt combo that was similar, and it just helped the entire session to flow so well. One of the requests Payton had was to incorporate her sweet pooches. They were so freakin cute! Fyi, trying to get dogs to cooperate with a photoshoot is a whole thing, so please be impressed with how these turned out. Lol
For the next portion of her Wildflower Senior Experience, Payton chose to use the same location as her sister. But you guys already know how I do. No way was I going to try to recreate images from Lexi's session. Payton is her own person and this needed to reflect that. Anytime my seniors want to incorporate murals or backgrounds with lots of color, I typically recommend picking outfits with some neutral colors. She chose a super cute black top and denim... can't go wrong with that!
Something you should probably know... Payton's a goofball. haha Obviously my goal is to always make sure I get photos that 100% represent you guys. I'm so so so glad Payton felt comfortable and open enough to be herself. Because she's hilarious and awesome and a climber! haha
If the location seems to be a little familiar, it's become my home away from home over the last 3 years. NoDa used to be my most requested spot, but Camp North End has now replaced it. NoDa will always hold a special place in my heart, but Camp North End is massive and has the best feel to it. Like NoDa, it welcomes artists. However with it's growing popularity, I've had to get a little more strategic in my shooting. I never want my seniors to feel like they're getting the same shots as someone else. So if it's a spot that's more popular, I'll try to use it in a new way (like the upside down image of Payton swinging). And I almost always will pick weird little areas that get overlooked by others (like random curbs with colorful backgrounds behind them).
I seriously had the best time with Payton, and I'm super honored they chose me to document their memories for a second time.
