I think most professional photographers have their own inner list of sessions they are dying to do. For most, it's usually Indian weddings or a birth or even some sort of conceptual styled shoot. For me, as a senior portrait photographer, one of mine was to photograph twins. Thanks to many years of family sessions, I've had plenty of opportunities to photograph siblings together, particularly older teens and adults. But I had yet to get a twin inquiry. That was until Emma and Anna's mom contacted me for their senior session.
They may not know it, but they paid me one of the highest compliments a senior photographer can get. Their mom said she googled a few local photographers, narrowed it down to three favorites, and asked them to pick one. They both said I was, hands down, the one they wanted. Be still my senior lovin' heart.
Not only do they live in Davidson, but they spent their growing up years hanging out in the town, grabbing a bite at the Soda Shop, evenings on the green... it was pretty clear we needed to incorporate this sweet town into their twin senior session. Both of them are such cool girls, trusting me completely to photograph them together at the exact same time, yet give them photos unique to each of them. We first hit the downtown area, making sure to hit any spots that were important to them. The colors they chose to wear were perfect. They had opted for the Full Senior Experience where they receive professional hair and makeup. Sabrina from Be Pretty Charlotte did such a fabulous job. Emma and Anna explained that they don't normally wear much makeup, and Sabrina made sure to keep their makeup simple yet beautiful. After the downtown area, we hit up our second location to give them a bit of variety. Their family loves to be outside, so this spot was perfect. Their dresses were so gorgeous too!
Towards the end of their senior session, I grabbed my lighting, and we played a little. I love to use off camera lighting, as it gives a little more dimension to an image. And those catchlights in their eyes are amazing!
I truly loved these girls and totally honored that they chose me to document their senior year for them. Seeing them literally gasp at seeing their photos for the first time was the best feeling ever. If you're a professional photographer and not providing your clients with a big reveal, I highly recommend it. It's way more rewarding than just sending over a gallery and hoping they like it. Designing their albums was much fun, and I know they'll love pulling them out many years from now to enjoy.
