There's definitely an assumption that all of these high school girls just looooove to have their photos taken. And they just show up knowing how to throw me these poses and coming across as confident and effortless.
Well let me go ahead and debunk that myth. I've had more than my fair share of teens, even girls, who are less than thrilled about the whole idea. They're basically showing up to appease mom. Enter Lily. Lol Bc that's how she felt about the whole thing. I've known Lily and her family since we first moved into their neighborhood as young newlyweds. Before I'd even thought of picking up a camera. So we go way back and Libby was able to convince Lily to let me do her senior photos.
But what really got Lily excited is the chance to get this animal lover's photos done at Mac Tabby Cat Cafe. When she found out I'm friends with the owner and she's super cool, we got a tiny bit of enthusiasm! haha We had fun playing with the kitties and grabbing some adorable shots in Lori's awesome space.
Originally, we were planning on staying in the NoDa area for the rest of the shoot. However, just as we were getting started, wouldn't you know it... some frenemies showed up. Poor Lily was so caught off guard and self-conscious, and I HATED it for her. I went into immediate rescue mode and told her we're switching locations. NoDa is too busy and cramped, and she needed space with fewer people (whether she knew it or not). So plot twist... we headed over to Camp North End.
Girls (and my boys too) I want you to know I got your back. I'm not going to force you to do anything you don't want to. And the second I can tell this is starting to spiral or you're feeling weird with too many people around or ANYTHING... I'm here for you.
So if you need a Popbar break? Bc fancy ice cream bars makes anybody smile? You got it. Whatever it takes to turn this mother around.
Lily is a great example of staying true to you. She's a simplye, no-fuss kind of girl: prefers to wear darker colors, little makeup, and doesn't like being in the spotlight. Keeping this as relaxed and low key as possible was important. Her outfits reflected that well and ended up being adorable.
Lily definitely perked up and we ended up having a great time. We got some gorgeous shots of her, and her mom was super happy with how the images turned out.
