I don't really believe in coincidences, especially when it comes to people. I think everyone that walks into your life has a purpose. Renee (and that whole group of girls from that time) will always be one of those special ones when I think back on my senior photography career. Our love of cats ended up being the reason our paths crossed. Lori, owner at Mac Tabby Cat Cafe, had chosen to put down her camera in exchange for following her dream to help rescue cats (in a very cool way, of course). Renee's parents reserved the cafe for her 16th birthday before its doors were even open. Lori asked if I'd photograph it, and of course I jumped at the chance! Fast forward to now. I've watched her grow from this adorable barely 16 year old to an incredible, kind, talented lady.
For her senior session, Renee chose to go to uptown Charlotte. It really fits her personality and style for sure. She wore an adorable little blue dress that complimented her skin tone and eyes. Despite being an insanely talented ballerina that has spent her life wearing all kinds of bright, colorful costumes with ruffles, lace, sequins, etc, her personal style is very minimalistic. In everyday life, she chooses to go more natural, and I love that about her. We started at Romare Bearden park, which is always an uptown Charlotte favorite.
Since her session, I have had so many seniors ask me about the ivy wall, wanting to recreate this image for themselves. I think that's when you know you're doing a good job at your specialty. When seniors stop requesting random Pinterest photos and start asking you for YOUR images?! THAT is a good feeling.
She changed into a pretty white dress (that I'm pretty sure she's had since middle school). Even though she's spent so much of her life in tights and tutus, Renee didn't want that to be the focus of her personal senior session. We got one quick shot... as we dodged traffic, lol... of her in her pointe shoes. I figured if I was only going to get one ballerina shot, we were going to make it worth it! haha
For her second location, I suggested trying out Camp North End. I had heard a couple people mention it, and of course I don't like missing out on new fun locations. ;) Renee agreed and we had the best time! It was so quiet, so we got to try lots of fun spots. I had brought an extra outfit from the style closet for her, and it was perfect for this spot. You can't go wrong with jeans and a black top!
I'm so thankful mine and Renee's paths crossed. She and her family will forever have a special place in my heart. It's hard to believe our time together is almost over!
